Episode 83: My 74-Year-Old Mom on 50 Years in Business: Why Balance Is a Lie and Retirement Is Ridiculous

Season #1

This episode is a conversation with my mom, who has been in business for 50 years, raised three kids with her husband who also ran a business, had staff in the house, neighborhood kids coming and going, and somehow made it all work. She is 74 and just started a new business. And she has more to say about what it actually takes to build a life and a business than most people I have ever met.

We talk about why balance is not the goal and juggling actually is, how she dealt with decades of criticism for the way she worked, mothered, and lived, and why not being afraid to share everything you have is what keeps relationships and businesses alive.

I also share what it was like growing up in that environment, how it shaped the way I run my business and my family now, and why I never wanted her to move her office out of my bedroom when I was 13.

We get into attitude trackers, task versus attitude, what it means to not be a victim to your feelings, and the one thing my mom said that I think every woman in business needs to hear right now.

This one hit different. I think you are going to love it.

Since you're here, I want to personally invite you into a free complimentary strategy session with me. We'll look at where you are right now, what's pulling your focus in too many directions, and the one strategy that actually fits your business so you can stop dabbling and start scaling.
